Rozelle
Rozelle is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney. It is located 4 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Inner West Council.
Rozelle sits between the suburbs of Balmain to the north-east and Lilyfield to the south-west.
History
The name Rozelle is believed to originate from the abundance of parrots in the area called ‘Rose Hill’ parrots. The name was later shortened to ‘rose-hillers’, ‘rosella’ and then ‘rozelle’. The land was originally part of a grant given to surgeon Dr William Balmain in 1800, and was known as Balmain West until the early 1900s when the suburb grew.
Transport
Bus services and ferries at Circular Quay are easily accessible from Rozelle, and the suburb is less than a 10-minute drive away from the CBD in non-peak hours.
Recreation
Rozelle boasts an array of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants in quaint Victorian-era buildings. Once humble blue-collar neighbourhoods, the suburbs have transformed into stylish hubs that entice residents, locals and tourists alike.
Schools
Balmain High School and Rozelle Primary School are both located in this area.
