Why Carlingford?
Carlingford is a suburb of Sydney in NSW Australia. It is located 22km north-west of the Sydney CBD in the local government area of City of Parramatta. It is in the Hills District and Northern Sydney regions.
History
Carlingford received its current name in 1886 after a vote by residents. The name was suggested by Frederick Cox after he heard one of his employees describe similarities between Mobbs Hill and the town of Carlingford, County Louth, located in the east of Ireland. As Sydney rapidly expanded, following World War II, Carlingford underwent urbanisation from the orange-growing agricultural area it once was.
Transport
There are several bus routes through Carlingford, and Carlingford railway station is the last stop on the Carlingford Line of the Cityrail network. There are also major roads and motorways connecting it to north sydney, the city and other sydney suburbs.
Recreation
Carlingford has many sporting clubs, and a large shopping centre, Carlingford Court which hosts major retailers as well as cafes and restaurants.
